Gallup poll findings released over the July 4th holiday noted that only 58% of Americans feel “extremely” or “very” proud of their country. Overall, the poll found that the percentage of Americans who say they are proud to be an American has declined 9 percent from last year. Is national pride the same as patriotism? Is it important to feel patriotic? At a time when our nation is experiencing widespread dissatisfaction with the state of the nation and intense partisan wrangling, this upcoming discussion session asks us to reflect on and share our views about, what it means to be a “patriot.”
